WYZARD
Today, Wyzard is best known as the bassist in Mother’s Finest, the world’s first multicultural funk rock band from Atlanta, Georgia. They toured the planet not only solo but with acts like The Who, Aerosmith, Parliament-Funkadelic, Santana, and AC/DC, to name a few. Despite being “too out-of-the-box for black radio” and “too black for rock radio,” their mind-blowing, powerful live performances have gained them cult status, especially in Europe.
Wyzard’s innovative style of playing, thumping, and slapping the bass, as well as his songwriting, were immensely influential in what was to become Funk Rock. He wrote Mother’s Finest’s biggest hit, “Baby Love”. Greats such as Prince, Eddie Van Halen, and Vernon Reid of Living Colour consider him an influence. In 2011, Mothers Finest was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame alongside such music icons as James Brown, Ray Charles, the Allman Brothers, and many others. In 2016, the band’s distinct contribution to Funk Rock music was honored with an exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Wyzard’s other accomplishments include touring and recording with Stevie Nicks, Rickey Medlocke and Blackfoot, Carl Carlton and the Songdogs, and more. Wyzard produced, arranged, and wrote on the album, We the People, for blues great, Guitar Shorty. The album won the 2008 Blues Foundation Award for Best Contemporary Blues recording.
Wyzard has also written and scored music for television and film.Wyzard’s first solo release, Primal Incantation on Brown Baby Records, is available at CDBaby, iTunes, Amazon.com, Spotify, and Apple Music. He promises more solo efforts in the future. Wyzard is currently in the final stages of writing his autobiography… oh wait! It’s done.
